Beginner Backpacking and Wilderness Survival at Latimer Scout Reservation
SUMMARY 🟢
ELECTRONICS REMINDER 📱🕹️
One of the great benefits of heading out on any of our trips is that we’re able to unplug from our digital world for a few days. Electronics are allowed while traveling to our destinations, but we have a longstanding rule that
Scouts are not allowed to use electronics while on our trips (i.e. if brought they’ll be left in vehicles and not used during the trip).
*Adults are responsible for their own food.

ITINERARY
This is a trip for both younger and older scouts.
Younger scouts will be hiking and camping on the beautiful Latimer Reservation, we’ll learn and practice the core fundamentals of backpacking. Saturday, we’ll hike a little over 3 miles to their backcountry campsite, and Sunday, a little under 2 miles back out - with gentle elevation throughout. The hiking trail at Latimer is in the heart of some of the most popular sites for hiking and camping in the state - it’s just across the gorge from the Virgin Falls State Natural Area and just north of Fall Creek Falls State Park.
Older scouts will be working on Wilderness Survival and must be 1st Class or above. This will consist of performing the requirements of the Wilderness Survival Merit Badge. Requirements are found here:
Each participant must have a signed, completed Health Form and the Latimer Parental Informed Consent and Hold Harmless Release Agreement (attached above).
